Paul Haggis to Exec-produce Cuba Gooding Jr.’s Directorial Debut

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 19, 2017) – Fresh off his Emmy nomination for “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr. is lining up an all-star cast for his directorial debut, LOUISIANA CAVIAR. In addition to helming and producing the indie feature, Gooding will star alongside Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss (“Mr. Holland’s Opus”), Famke Janssen (“X-Men” franchise) and Katharine McPhee (“Scorpion”). Additional casting is underway to round out the ensemble cast. Principal photography starts June 19th in New Orleans.

Written by “The Holy Land” writer/director Eitan Gorlin, Louisiana Caviar is about good people who, out of desperation, resort to doing bad things that inevitably leave them with life-changing consequences. In the film, Gooding plays Rodney, a former boxing champ who, after a deathbed visit to his trainer and mentor, is propelled into reclaiming victory for his now simple life as a nightclub bouncer. He partners with Janssen’s Nic, a no-nonsense lesbian photographer and an aspiring starlet to make a compromising tape with Isaac, a married devout Orthodox Jewish real estate mogul, that sets off a chain of events that brings down an underworld empire headed by Dreyfuss’s Yuri.

Veteran actor Anjul Nigam (“Bad Words”) is producing under his Brittany House Pictures banner along with Steve Straka of Quixotic Road. Nigam and Straka together produced “Growing Up Smith,” which had a forty-city theatrical run this spring. Hilary Shor (“Lee Daniel’s The Butler”) is also a producer and Oscar winner Paul Haggis (“Crash”) serves as executive producer. The movie is a coproduction of Fireshoe Productions with executive producer Eric Colley and producer Hallie Shepherd,  coproducers Miodrag Colombo, and Shawn Lin Fang and Taiwan-based Wudi Pictures, whose head Maxx Tsai serves as executive producer along with Todd Lewis. Gorlin, Sam Thakur, Beesham A. Seecharan, Eve Pomerance and Bill Black all serve in producing capacities.

Both Gooding and Janssen are represented by ICM Partners, which also serves as the project’s sales agent. Katharine McPhee is represented by William Morris Endeavor.
